Website and Blog Revamp

Some of you will have probably noticed that my website has been down for a few months now. However now, EVERYTHING has been updated and re-written.

Up until now, Wayne (Electronscape) was hosting my website and blog alongside his own. He then started having issues with his web host:

My website was initially a late 90s/early 2000s style website built in Dreamweaver, literally. I created it in Dreamweaver…I know I like to do things old-school but it really wasn’t suitable for modern web. It’s the only way I know how to design a website. Back in those days I designed a cr@ppy little personal website in Geocities and even before using Dreamweaver I designed it in…..*sigh*… *mumbles under her breath with gritted teeth*.. MS Frontpage *cough*.

I feel so dirty admitting to that, it’s as bad as admitting to using Internet Explorer. I ended up with a website nonetheless, but then soon moved onto Dreamweaver once I got the hang of building a website.

This is what my recent website looked like before the big revamp

As much as I liked the old-school look and feel since it’s what i’m after. The code and design aspect of it is severely outdated by today’s standard and unsuitable for web really. A huge thanks goes to Rich for shedding light on all this. He’s helped out a lot! He also received a much deserved thank you gift for it.

I’ve designed the website graphically and he’s been doing all the background coding etc since he has much more of an understanding of websites and web standards etc than I do. No really, I was clueless about it, thinking I can just put something together in Dreamweaver and upload. What a shock it was to realise how much things have changed!

I’ve managed to find a web host of my own and got a four year package, which i’ll be renewing when the time comes. so I plan to be here a while yet 🙂

The website going down was probably a blessing in disguise. The whole site and blog got the much needed attention it needed and deserves, a full revamp!

There has been a downside to it (for me) with regards to the blog side of things. I had started doing the blog in Flatpress initially and there’s no way I know of to transfer this to WordPress, which is what I use currently. So it took an entire day to manually transfer all my posts and images. I’m definitely liking WordPress way more than Flatpress, there’s more freedom and more customization.

This is what my blog used to look like, as cosy as it did look, it had a few niggles about it which didn’t make it as straight forward to blog with. I no longer need to use “BB Code” or pseudo code when embedding images or video. Creating posts just feels more straightforward on WordPress than it did on Flatpress.

The only thing that’s a pity is that i’ve lost all the comments you all left on my Flatpress posts. Thankfully i’ve been able to salvage as much of them as I could as screenshots and post them as images at the end of past posts. Thank you all for engaging! As I said i’ve just got a 4 year web hosting package which i’ll be renewing when it ends. That means i’m going to be sticking around for a while with WordPress now as it’s much better. So comment away to your heart’s content and please share your thoughts on my posts. i’d love to hear your input. <3

Also, since it is more convenient to create posts now, i’m definitely more motivated to write blog entries without hesitation. Not to mention you can now subscribe to the mailing list on the right here and get occasional updates on what’s going on 🙂

As you’ve probably noticed, the overall look and layout of my website has stayed pretty much the same. All the parts ‘under the bonnet’ however, have been completely redone. Things have been polished up and I even have a blog mailing list which you all can subscribe to (check the right side of the page).

I have new logos too which I actually designed on the Amiga using Deluxe Paint. Kinda gives me a nice warm feeling using authentic Amiga graphics for my website 😀

Those of you who watched my Amiga Genlock and VHS videos will have seen me in the process of drawing these in Deluxe Paint.

Anyway, I’ll leave you to take a look around, explore my website and enjoy. Don’t forget to comment below and let me know what you think 🙂

Thanks! Yeah I didn’t want to move away from that old school look that I initially created.
