I’m extremely excited about receiving this SIDBox prototype as it’s always been a dream device of mine. I am someone who has always been obsessed with Amiga music from childhood. Starting from the moment my brother got a Hifi system and linked the Amiga to the Aux in. The MOD tapes began. In high school times I was the one who had a Walkman with MOD cassettes.
I used to collect them back then using the Action Reply II cartridge which my brother got. These were my early SoundTracker Pro 2 days and how I miss them!
So the college days began. Each day I came home with a pile of floppies in my backpack. The two members of staff who worked there must have wondered why this girl needs so many floppy disks. I bought a couple of boxes one time. Oh my God I even miss how Aminet used to look like back then. Seeing the old site and look gives me nostalgia pangs. I’ve always loved that old logo too, again it reminds me of my college days!
I would span loads of MODs downloaded from Aminet and bring them home. College day evenings were spend put Lha files through CrossDos and enjoying a session of listening through new MODs.
Now as you’ve figured, for someone who’s into MODs that much to have a device like this! I cannot imagine my excitement had my college girl self were to receive the SIDBox!
I’m also glad I pushed Wayne into doing a tracker interface. He kept saying it wasn’t possible due to the limitations. However, I kept pushing him because I knew he could do it, I know he’s good at what he does.
Despite there being no case and the SIDBox being in it’s crude form. I’m still loving it and use it so much. Wayne says he’s working on a new case for it so I’ll be looking forward to that.
I’ve been enjoying SID tunes also lately and the SIDBox plays them nicely although differently. Wayne’s managed to replicate the 8580 SID well though it has a slightly different flavour. Saying that no two SID chips sound the same anyway.
Below is a video I created about this:
